Marcus Pierce is a New York City based artist. He is a painter who has worked for over twenty years creating both studio work and public art. Early in his career, he worked as a professional muralist, designer, and sign painter. He has won numerous city and nationally-funded grants for his public artworks including grants from NEA, NYCDOT, and ISCP. Primarily an oil and acrylic painter, his working process stems from classical painting, using indirect layered glazes. He combines this with modified sign-painting techniques and materials. Much of his inspiration comes from introspection, but he is equally inspired by forefronts of scientific thought, such as cognitive science, consciousness, and complexity theory.
